Throughout September, our school counselor, Mrs. Byrum, has been visiting every classroom to deliver counseling lessons. She introduced herself to students, explained the many ways she supports them, and showed how they can reach out to her when needed. What a great way to help students feel supported and know they always have someone in their corner!

After reading the story "How Dorothy Saved the Scarecrow," our 4th graders dove into a hands-on literacy and STEM challenge! First, students participated in a walking knowledge-building activity to identify the main idea, key details, and characters of the story. Then, in small groups, they used that enriched understanding to plan and engineer a way to save the scarecrow - using only LEGOs! Through class discussion, it was decided that all the key details they used in their engineering plans and construction activity were successful!

5th grade ended their "corn unit" today (cultivating natural resources) and we went out with a pop! Special thanks to parent and local agronomist Mr. Scott Uzzell for bringing students field corn that's locally grown and also used to make many things students eat - as well as a collection of things made from the field corn. Students enjoyed being able to read about different farming methods as well as all the different ways corn is used. We ended the unit enjoying many of the items that are made with corn (thanks to generous class parents) as well as visualizing how we NOW look at corn....it's Super Corn!

Here are some snapshots from Wisdom Wednesday in Mrs. Green’s 5th grade class. This year at RES, Wisdom Wednesday is our way of bringing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Character Education to life. Through morning announcements and classroom lessons, we share valuable insights and wisdom with all our students to support their growth and well-being.Today, students deepened their understanding of our monthly character trait, responsibility, by exploring what it looks like and means within the school community through a thoughtful discussion.

During morning announcements at RES, we “PAWS for Applause” to celebrate students whose names have been drawn from our PBIS Honey Jar! Students are nominated for exhibiting positive behaviors connected to our CUBS Matrix or monthly character trait.

Here are the six students we’ve celebrated so far:

Mallory C: “Helping a friend who was sad and needed a hug!

Raina R: “Helped an upset student pack up and get to their next class

McKenzie L: “McKenzie checked on another student when he fell!

Naomi E: “She guided a friend who is new to the school to the nurse’s office!

Sarah Scott U: “Sarah Scott picked up candy paper that was left by a group of car riders without being asked to do so!”

Dallas M: “A student left trash on the lunch table. Dallas was almost at the trash can and was the only one that came back to get the trash!

We are so proud of our students for showing kindness, responsibility, and leadership every day!

RES celebrated Constitution Day in a big way!
We started with a reminder during the morning announcements about the importance of the day, and students enjoyed engaging activities to honor the signing of the Constitution. Just some of the fun included kindergarteners creating their own classroom constitution and 5th graders making patriotic sun catchers to celebrate the freedoms we enjoy.
