Second grade ELA students in Mrs. Uzzell’s class at Rodgers have been exploring fables and folktales from diverse cultures! After reading "The Crow and the Pitcher," students discussed the story’s central message and how the crow used creativity to solve a problem. Building on that idea, Mrs. Stevens led them in a STEAM challenge, designing a simpler way for the crow to reach the water using only outdoor materials- a straw, and sticky tack sap. This hands-on activity encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking while connecting literacy with science and engineering!

Fifth grade ELA students at Rodgers Elementary were ‘blinded by inferences last week! After reading Sky Glitter, a story about a grandfather who becomes blind, students stepped into Grandpa’s shoes to explore how life might change. Using a ‘speed dating’ discussion format and a fun blindfold challenge with mystery bags, students used context clues, descriptive language, and empathy to strengthen their inferencing skills in a truly hands-on way!

During morning announcements at RES, we ‘PAWS for Applause’ to celebrate students whose names have been drawn from our PBIS Honey Jar! Students are nominated for demonstrating positive behaviors connected to our CUBS Matrix or monthly character trait.
Here are the most recent seven students we’ve celebrated—and the reasons they were nominated:
✨ Josephine C. – Worked hard, paid attention, and didn’t give up when working with me. Yay! (not pictured)
✨ Chloe L. – Assisted a 2nd grader with a personal issue.
✨ Sarah Scott U. – Helped friends open their lunches in the lunchroom.
✨ Savannah R. – So kind and helpful to her classmates.
✨ Hayes U. – Cleaned up trash on and off the tables in the lunchroom without even being asked!
✨ Harper G. – Used her own money to buy another student a lunch box and filled it with snacks.
✨ Bryson W. – Offered to walk with a friend who was scared to the swing and pushed him once they got there.
We are so proud of our students for showing kindness, responsibility, and leadership every day at RES!

They also studied the mixture of Chex mix and its different properties… they even got a little snack at the end! YUM!

After finishing their unit on electricity and circuits, Mrs. Jenkins’ 4th grade science students put their knowledge to the test with Snap Circuits! ⚡💡 If their lightbulb or fan didn’t work, they knew it was an open circuit but when it lit up or spun, they had a closed circuit! What an exciting way to see their learning come to life!”
