Curious little scientists at work! Mrs. White’s PreK class experimented with mixing colors to see what new shades they could create. From surprised gasps to proud smiles, watching them explore and learn was priceless

For the 100th day of school, Ms. Gray’s 2nd graders transformed their classroom into NASA Headquarters for an out-of-this-world escape room challenge! Students worked in teams to crack math clues, steer their missions, and earn official NASA Agent Badges with top security clearance. What a fun way to celebrate 100 days of learning — and build teamwork and problem-solving skills along the way.

How lucky are we to have such dedicated bus drivers? This week we celebrated them with a grab and go breakfast, Crumbl Cookie treats, a donated gift card from Cakes by Becky, and a very special Buffalo Nickel as a token of our appreciation.
Just like the buffalo on this coin, you are symbols of strength and steadiness—braving all kinds of weather and traffic to keep our children safe. You truly are the “engine” that keeps our school running smoothly. Thank you for carrying our most precious cargo every day!

Just a quick reminder for parents of students who reside in Willow Acres and ride bus 196:
There are two bus stops in the Willow Acre complex. The 1st bus stop is at Mailbox #3. The 2nd bus stop is up front by the light pole.
For student safety, and according to district policy, an authorized adult must be present at the the bus stop to receive their child as they exit the bus. If an adult is not present, the bus driver will bring the student back to the school office where a parent or guardian can pick them up.

Feeling grateful! It's Love the Bus week and we’re celebrating the hardworking men and women who keep our students safe on the road. This morning we welcomed our bus drivers with a grab-and-go breakfast to start the week of appreciation. Thank you for all you do!

Bus 228 is running late this morning.
It was so good to see our students back today! We hope you have a great weekend. Just as a reminder -- Monday is a regular school day (this is a change to the school calendar). Check out our weekly newsletter!

Ready for the big game? Our students & staff rocked their favorite shade of blue today — which blue are you?

We're celebrating the leaders whose courage, creativity, and resilience show our students what’s possible. We hope every student can see themselves in these role models.

Have you heard of One Word for Kids? This charming story follows Stevie on his first day of school as he learns the power of choosing a single word to guide the year. After reading, our 5th graders picked a word that motivates them — and we hope they have the best year ever!

Guess who we celebrated today? Mrs. Missy Griffin! During National School Counselor Appreciation Week, WPS surprised her with some goodies to show how thankful we are. Mrs. Griffin does so much for our students, teachers, and families — from guidance and support to everyday encouragement. We’re so grateful for everything she brings to our school community. Thank you, Mrs. Griffin!

Did someone say snow day + study time? We loved seeing students and families make the most of this winter week—playing outside, laughing together, and even squeezing in some remote learning. What snowy memory made you smile this week? Share a photo or story below!

We will have our next Car Line Coffee Fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 13. We greatly appreciate your support!

Ready for some Friday fun? Free Choice Friday had students choosing a lively game of dodgeball with Coach Lilley to kick off the weekend! It’s amazing how a few minutes of movement and teamwork can lift spirits and build friendships.

Have you seen our MIEP students with their instruments yet? This is our first year offering elementary band, and Mr. P has them learning so much already. We’re so proud of how confidently they’re showing off what they’ve learned — heartwarming performances and big smiles all around!

Want to see students lead with empathy and confidence? A group of 3rd and 4th grade MIEP students are taking Peer Mediation training with the Mediation Center of Eastern North Carolina. These students will learn active listening and conflict-resolution skills so that they can help classmates work out disagreements peacefully.

Curious about Free-Choice Fridays? Some of our MIEP students tried an introductory crochet class — they made some beautiful, unique designs and supported one another every step of the way. It was a joyful day of learning for both students and teachers!
