The sixth graders had a blast today in Mrs. Leggett's Social Studies classes. She extended her unit on China with a virtual visit to several Chinese locations which included a restaurant. Did you know chopsticks weren't made to eat with originally? They were made to stir food in pots and evolved to become an eating utensil. Who knew?

Our very own Landon Leggett, sixth grade social studies teacher, along with eight other NC educators were awarded the Educators of Excellence Grant by the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences. They flew to Yellowstone National Park & spent time in the park studying & exploring! The teachers studied with experts on the park's geology, ecology & history. On their first day they watched wolves with two leading wolf experts in Yellowstone. The group was able to meet with Cindy and Dan Hartman, two leading naturalist and photographers, that worked with the BBC and National Geographic on projects within Yellowstone. On their last day they met with two geology staff members and an educational park ranger. What a wonderful educational experience.

Students from the Martin Innovative Early College and MCS CTE spoke to 8th-grade classes at Riverside Middle School recently on the Game Art Design pathway opportunities. Mr. Prettyman, who teaches GAD, along with Digital Design & Animation and Advanced Manufacturing at the Innovation Campus, had his students share their experiences and the content the courses in the pathway offered. Marshall Lawrence II, Lauren Campbell, and Terrance Whitley advised the 8th graders about the courses and prerequisites and being a student at the Early College and all the opportunities available through CTE (Career & Technical Education).

MCS student Alijah Lassiter works at his internship for PV Transport with Country View Family Farms. Located in Williamston, CVFF Trailer Wash and Bio-Dry is the only facility of its kind in NC. Alijah enjoys the work and opportunity of a paid internship via CVFF and MCS CTE. Great job, Alijah! Thank you to CVFF for your partnership to help our students "learn by doing" and enhance technical and workplace skills.
