In October, Mrs. Byrum, our School Counselor, visited all classrooms to deliver lessons in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month. Students learned how to be Upstanders—people who stand up for others and help keep Rodgers Elementary safe and kind. With help from two 5th-grade student assistants, Mrs. Byrum shared the book The Juice Box Bully by Bob Sornson and Maria Dismondy. Check out these photos from the classroom counseling lessons! #NationalBullyingPreventionMonth #BeAnUpstander

Today 5th grade had 2 field experiences in 1 big trip! First stop was Jeanette’s Pier where students used special containers to gather water specimens off the pier. They then looked at each one under the microscope to find all the living unicellular species that live in our ocean. Next they learned about all the ways animals communicate under water and students got to use a hydrophone that they placed in the ocean off the pier and could listen to the animals! The main thing they heard was the clicking of the snapping shrimp! After lunch students travelled to the aquarium in Manteo where they took part in a fish dissection. They were the best little scientists and have learned so much!
