The MCS Barnyard was busy this morning bridging the pathway of Middle School Agriculture and High School Animal Science. The Animal Science II Companion class hosted Agriscience students from Riverside Middle School to see and work with companion animals. Chickens, baby chicks, goats, rabbits, mini pot-belly pigs, and a ferret were on display for students to hold and observe. Students will be provided more of these opportunities as we begin celebrating Career Development Month.

The 900 Building is buzzing with work and projects from the Family & Consumer Sciences Department. In Foods & Nutrition, students produced the 9 essential amino acids chain while those in Counseling and Mental Health discussed communication best practices while building with partners. Students have started this semester focused and ready in Health Science Careers class taught by Mrs. R. Revels. As you can see in the pics, these students love the exploration and hands-on opportunities in these Health Science modules. We are not only lighting a fire for health-related careers, but also igniting champions in MCS Career & Tech Ed classes.
An awesome experience for MCS students today at the Innovation Campus & Early College with BeProBeProudNC. What an amazing facility to participate in North Carolina's trade industry. Students welded, drove 18 wheelers, operated an industrial crane and excavator, timber machinery, and had options to work in the plumbing, electrical, diesel mechanic, or construction field. MCS wants to provide every student, every opportunity! Tomorrow the BPBPNC Trades Truck rolls on to the campus of Martin County High School.

FCCLA Chapter Advisor, Mrs. April Joyner and member Ezzurie Williams attended the National Leadership Conference June 29-July 3rd in Seattle, Washington.
Ezzurie serves NC FCCLA as the state Vice President of Competitive Events and says "I love being a state officer because it helps me see the world and the potential that I have; as well as helping overcome a lot of self doubts."
Mrs. Joyner said "Attending the FCCLA National Conference held in Seattle allowed Ezzurie and myself to network, learn and attend valuable life changing workshops . We meet members from all over the United States, the farthest member we meet was from Hawaii!!!!"
We are very proud of Ezzurie and look forward to seeing our FCCLA Chapter continue to grow!

Animal Science Camp was a hit with rising 8th and 9th graders. Students learned proper small animal and livestock care, visited the Equine program at MCC, made ice cream, and are eager to join FFA.
Trades Camp concluded today with the 64 East Trades Tour! Students started out at IPG (Intertape Polymer Group) in Everetts (formerly Syfan) as students learned and saw how plastics, shrink-wrap, and Amazon tape were made. Then, we rolled up 64 to Tarboro to Edgecombe-Martin EMC where students learned about the Line Technician profession and other jobs at the electric membership cooperative. Our final stop was back to Williamston to Williams Fire Sprinklers and Security. Students were given a tour of the facility and had the opportunity to use pipe fittings, view precision machinery, see how sprinklers save property, and work on a security panel. The final piece had students compete and work together to build a picnic table in 15 minutes! Great job! From elementary to high school, MCS brings trade skill awareness and opportunities to students. #MartinOffersMore
Career Discovery Camp for rising 6th graders wraps up today. These students have worked through extensive hands on career discovery lessons in Nutrition, Robotics, Health Science, Computer Science, Forensic Science, Manufacturing, Engineering and Electrical. Building upon 5th grade awareness events and activities, these students now have a better understanding of each Career pathway.
Summer Trades Camp made the stop today at Martin Community College for Trades Day at MCC! Thank you to Mrs. Natasha Roberson, Director of the MCC Career Center for being our Academic Guide today. Thanks also to Ryal Watkins (Advanced Manufacturing/Welding), Clay Simpson (Industrial Systems/Welding), Guy Leggett III (HVAC), Mary Dalcourt (Equine Technology), Chief Larry Johnson (Fire Academy), and James Barnes (Automotive Technology) for their time, expertise, and instruction with MCS students. MCS 8th and 9th graders are doing some good work in the CTE Trades Camp this summer! Students are learning by doing, visiting with trade experts at Beaufort Community College (Boat Building & Mech Engineering), Martin Community College, and the 64 East Trades Route. Two young ladies with a passion for helping others volunteered for an NC Center for the Blind/Visually Impaired event in Washington, NC recently. Liya Browning and Mikiyah Davis, students of the now Martin County High School, participated in the program to help the local eastern NC chapter chaired by Martin County native, Mrs. Kim Revels. "These two ladies did a fantastic job and displayed charisma, sincerity, and maturity. It was great to have them volunteer this evening," said Revels. "They will receive certified volunteer hours on the Governor's letterhead". Browning also recently completed an internship assisting in a special needs classroom in the district. Davis is enhancing her healthcare pathway. Thank you to both students for your time, efforts, and excellent example.
Last week, we wrapped up the first of many camps for Martin County Schools. During the AIG camp, students engaged in several exciting activities: they built their own putt-putt courses to code their Spheros, constructed ping pong catapults to test angles and trajectories, and designed their own kites. The camp concluded with a fun day of playing putt-putt and flying kites at Jockey's Ridge.

An internship in Animal Science can open doors and lead you to several opportunities. Reagan Cowan and Peyton Rogers interned with the MCS Animal Science program led by 1st year Ag Teacher, Ms. Patterson. Little did they know their involvement would put them in the Annual Livestock Show, participating in FFA Competitions, and meeting North Carolina House Representative Shelly Willingham. The MCS Internship program is on fire and Jayla Everett now knows how to handle EMS and fire calls. The MCS senior interned with Williamston Fire/Rescue, seen here with Chief Peaks and other local heroes, as she learned the ropes (and hoses) of firefighting.
Gage Savage has enhanced his agricultural mechanic skills while interning at Atlantic & Southern Implement Company, formerly C&R Implement of Williamston. Gage has received rave reviews from the shop manager and is looking forward to continuing his pursuit of using his technical and mechanical skills via the Line Technician program after graduation.
