Mrs. Stalls’ class did some pumpkin investigating. They read the story Pumpkin Jack, by Will Hubbell. Afterwards, the students cleaned out a pumpkin to put lunch trash in and bury. The students will dig it up on Earth Day to see what was decomposed. Can't wait till April to see what's left!

You do not have to wait for high school to take hands-on classes such as Exploring Environment and Natural Resources! Just as Samantha Hoggard's seventh graders at Riverside Middle School. This morning students used a standard water monitoring kit to test water samples from the water fountain, the workroom sink, the Roanoke River, and the Pamlico River. The samples were tested for dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, phosphate, and nitrate. They have been learning about water quality and pollution so this was a hands-on opportunity to analyze local water sources and our drinking water. #dreambig #explorenow

Today we had several classes visit the Louvre in Paris, the Sistine Chapel in Rome and several other European sites virtually. Mrs. Stinson's Social Studies Classes are studying Europe's Renaissance period. They were able to virtually see renaissance paintings and architecture up close. How exciting!

Heather and Jessika from Martin Memorial Library visited Ms. Leggett's class to introduce Libby, their e-book and audio book app. It's a great resource for all of our students but especially our Battle of the Books Team. All students were given library cards as well.

Mrs. Manning treated her 6th grade ELA students with a virtual visit to the Amazon jungle. The class read, Why Monkeys Live in Trees, by Julius Lester and The Case of the Monkeys That Fell from the Trees by Susan Quinlan. This engaging activity brought the settings of the stories to life. Mrs. Rushing loved it as well!
