PPE

Mrs. Horodyski’s 8th Grade IMPACT class, students who are on the traditional pathway, recently stepped into the world of healthcare during a fun and hands-on Health Science lesson!

As part of their unit, students learned the importance of properly donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE), an essential skill used by healthcare professionals every day to help prevent contamination and protect both patients and providers.

To bring the lesson to life, students participated in an interactive simulation after putting on their PPE. Mrs. Horodyski used ketchup on their gloves to represent a patient’s blood, challenging students to carefully remove their gloves without getting any “contamination” on their skin or other parts of their equipment. This activity gave students a realistic look at the level of care, attention, and safety required in the healthcare field.

Students also practiced correctly disposing of their PPE in the appropriate waste containers, reinforcing the importance of infection control and proper safety procedures.

This was a great opportunity for students to not only build their understanding of health science concepts, but also to explore a potential career pathway in a fun, engaging, and memorable way. Hands-on experiences like this help students connect classroom learning to real-world careers and open the door to new possibilities for their future! Another way Martin Offers More!!
