Mizelle Returns to Martin County Schools

Grantley Mizelle, a one-time teacher and football coach at South Creek High School, is returning to Martin County Schools as the new principal of Riverside High School.

The Bertie County native comes to the district from the Edenton-Chowan School District, where he has served as an assistant principal since 2020 and was selected Assistant Principal of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year. 

“Grantley Mizelle has built his career in Northeastern North Carolina. He is a passionate leader with high expectations and a strong vision for success,  ” explained Dr. Michelle White, Superintendent of Martin County Schools. 

Mizelle has a strong resume demonstrating 6-12 administrative experience, tenures as 6-12 athletic director, in addition to numerous coaching and teaching experiences. 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with North Carolina teacher licensure from Barton College in Wilson; a master’s degree in Physical/Teacher Education from West Virginia University in Morgantown. Mizelle later received a master’s degree in Education Administration with Administration licensure. 

“We are confident that he is the perfect fit for Riverside High School and for our district,” said White. “He will be a catalyst to drive Riverside High School to new heights.” 

Darrell Richardson, current principal at Riverside High School, will be shifting to support our children in a new role within the district.
