Running a high school band program entails unique expenses, especially if students participate in marching band competitions.
Since Daniel Garcia took the reins last fall as director of the Martin County High School Band, he has been seeking outside funding opportunities to supplement district budgeted funds.
When school resumed after Christmas break, Garcia was notified that one of those opportunities had been fulfilled, and the program was awarded $20,000 by the local Francis M. Barnes Charitable Trust.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Francis M. Barnes Charitable Trust for believing in the program we are building,” explained Garcia. “We understand a program like ours will be the source of many memories made and will continue to inspire a love of music for years to come. And that’s a responsibility we take very seriously.”
Garcia explained that the gift will be used in three primary areas: the purchase of instruments, the purchase of much-needed electronic equipment for performances, and an enclosed trailer to haul and secure band equipment while on the road at competitions.
“The enhancement of the music program at Martin County High School will have a profound impact on the students, fostering creativity, discipline, and teamwork. By providing access to quality instruments and resources, we can unlock their potential and inspire a lifelong appreciation for the arts,” Garcia explained.
“We believe that investing in music education is an investment in the future, nurturing well-rounded individuals who will contribute positively to our community. We are confident that this investment will yield significant returns in the form of student achievement and community engagement.
A huge thank you and appreciation to The Francis M. Barnes Trust for its support in our school, our students, and its community. The Martin County High School Band is grounded in purpose and growing with vision!”
