A small school district making a big difference!

Every day, Martin County Schools strives to provide a safe, productive environment for every student and every staff member. We aim to make a big difference in the lives of students and families - and that’s what makes us who we are. We are Martin County Schools and it is our responsibility to ensure that every student is prepared for their next step after high school, whether that is continuing education, service to our country, or joining the workforce.

MCS is one of Martin County's largest employers. Our nearly 500 employees are spread between two high school feeder areas: South Creek High School (located outside Robersonville) and Riverside High School (located in Williamston). Our Middle schools are South Creek Middle School (grades 6-8, (located outside Robersonville), and Riverside Middle School (grades 6-8, located in Williamston). The elementary schools in MCS are Williamston Primary School (PK-2), E.J. Hayes Elementary School (grades 3-5, located in Williamston), and Rodgers Elementary School (PK-5, east of Bear Grass) and Jamesville Elementary School (grades PK-5 - ), and South Creek Elementary School, (PK-5, located outside Robersonville).

The MCS Innovation Campus is new as of fall 2021. This exciting addition to the district provides a world of opportunities to students by offering CTE courses, as well as hands-on interaction with STEAM curriculum above and beyond what is available in the traditional classroom.

The MCS Technology Department is based next door to Innovation Campus on West Boulevard (near Bojangles). There's much more to come about the Innovation Campus soon!

Our Central Office facility, home to the superintendent's office, human resources, finance and curriculum team members; is located at 300 North Watts Street in Williamston, the county seat.

The MCS Maintenance and Transportation teams are based out of facilities located on Prison Camp Road, just outside the Williamston town limits.

History, Geography and the Future

The county is located between Raleigh, North Carolina's state capitol, and the scenic Outer Banks. Much of the county's rich history is attached to the Roanoke River, which is much like a historical figure itself – dating back to the earliest days of recorded local history.

Native American artifacts have long been discovered along the river's edge near Williamston along with Civil War artifacts and documented action which took place during the 1860s.

The Roanoke River was a literal lifeline for the area for decades, bringing in supplies to the fledgling towns and communities which sprouted up and newcomers found their way to the area.

For years, the river has been known far and wide for hunting and fishing opportunities.

The towns and municipalities of Martin County are Williamston, Robersonville, Hamilton, Jamesville, Bear Grass, Everetts, Parmele, Oak City and Hassell.

Regardless of the size of the community, there are opportunities to become involved throughout Martin County ranging from various civic group opportunities, men and women's community fitness groups, community gardening, food pantries, and much more.

Other community names, which are not incorporated municipalities, commonly associated with Martin County include Gold Point, Dardens and Farm Life – which was the home of one of the state's first agriculture-based schools in the early 1920s. We are proud of our past and excited for our future.

Every day the Martin County Schools' team is Working Together . . . Making a Difference. We do this to prepare every student to go out and do the same thing.

Whether they are farmers, members of the military, Major League Baseball players, local business owners, artists or employees of Martin County Schools – our graduates have gone on to make a difference and continue to do so today.
