Gene Scott, the current longest-serving member of the Martin County Board of Education, has been awarded the highest training recognition from the North Carolina School Boards Association.
During the 2025 NCSBA Annual Conference, held November 12-14 in Greensboro, Scott received the NCSBA Scholar’s Award.
The award recognizes that Scott has completed in excess of 900 total cumulative hours of board member training within the Academy for School Broadsmanship, the NCSBA’s chosen training program for board members.
This program provides members with high-quality training to help them lead public education at the local level and to develop a stronger understanding of state- and national-level matters related to local education.
Scott, a Martin County native, represents School Board District 4 and has served on the Martin County Board of Education for 24 years.
