Riverside High School Summer Reading for the 2019-2020 School Year

 

All students will be expected to complete summer reading before the first day of school, Monday, August 26, 2019.

 

Students enrolled in Honors English must read ALL assigned books and complete AR tests for each book in a designated homeroom session within the first five days of school. Books are listed at the bottom of this page and may be checked out from the RHS media center.

 

Students who are not enrolled in Honors English are to read a TOTAL of 10 Accelerated Reader points with neither of their books being less than five AR points. Students are to be prepared to take the AR test for the books that they read during a designated homeroom session within the first five days of school.

Individual English teachers reserve the right to use Summer Reading books for additional instruction, and grades in class.

 

The students fulfilling the summer reading requirement will earn the grade that they make on the AR test and it will count as a quiz grade in English.

 

For students choosing not to do the Summer Reading assignment the following will happen: they will receive a zero for a quiz grade in English.

 

Honors English Book Titles – Honors English students must read both titles for their grade level.

11th Grade - The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

                      - Maggie: A Girl of the Streets by Stephen Crane

12th Grade - The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louise Stevenson

                       - 1984 by George Orwell
