Mizelle

Bertie Native to Lead Softball and Volleyball Programs

Jody Mizelle has been tapped as Martin County High School's new Gator softball and volleyball coach. She will also teach high school health and physical education.

"We are excited to have Coach Mizelle join our team as a physical education teacher, head volleyball and softball coach,” explained Grantley Mizelle, Principal of Martin County High School. “She brings years of experience both on the field and in the gym to our school. We cannot wait for her to get started and continue to build upon the foundation laid by Coach Bob Lilley."

A standout on the Lenior-Rhyne softball team, Mizelle returned to Bertie County in 2014 after graduating and began her teaching career as a health and physical education teacher with Bertie County Schools.

During her time at Bertie Middle School, Mizelle coached volleyball and softball and served as an assistant coach for girls' basketball.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to teach and coach at Martin County High School,” Mizelle shared. “I am looking forward to working with the students and athletes, and I hope to share some of the knowledge I have gained throughout my career with them. I am truly humbled by this exciting new chapter.”

Mizelle’s experience goes well beyond a PE class. She has served various roles within local recreational departments, which include, but are not limited to, summer camp recreation assistant, summer camp assistant, supervising campers, camp organization, and game officiating.
