Back to School

Dear Elementary School Parents,

On Monday, March 29th, 2021, the Martin County Schools Board of Education voted for all Middle and High school students to transition to NC Plan A on Monday, April 12, 2021. Elementary School students are already on NC Plan A five days a week. Parents of K-5 students that are interested in their child returning to face-to-face learning may contact their school.

We are working hard every day to provide a quality education in a safe environment. However, we fully understand if students do not wish to attend school in-person. For this reason, students who wish to remain on Remote / Virtual learning with the Martin County School System can do so by contacting their school directly.

COVID Reminders

·      Martin County has greatly reduced the number of COVID-19 cases and has been designated as a yellow county for the past several weeks, and is as of the time of this communication (March 30, 2021).  Yellow represents the lowest tier of cases in the NC COVID-19 color system.

·      The NC Department of Public Instruction and Martin County Schools will still require all students and staff to wear face coverings on all school campuses and school related functions.

·      Students and staff will still be screened daily before entering the buildings and the 3W’s Wash, Wait, and Wear will still be expected.  While we know that COVID-19 is better in Martin County, now is not the time to relax and disregard the protocols we have followed to get to this point.

Focus and Priorities of Martin County Schools

·      Please know that the safety of students and staff is our number one priority.

·      The main focus of Martin County Schools is to get our students back into the classrooms and to protect the integrity of the academic school day.

·      Martin County Schools will continue to monitor and limit the amount of interruptions to the academic school day.

·      Martin County Schools will continue to monitor and limit non-essential visitors. Out of an abundance of caution, only MCS school staff and outside personnel designated for emergencies are allowed inside the school buildings during the academic day. We will immediately notify our parents and guardians when this situation improves.

Thank you for choosing Martin County Schools as a partner in the K-12 education of your child!

Sincerely,

David Fonseca, Superintendent
