Mrs. Garcia's 5th grade classes created a mini ecosystem that includes producers and decomposers.. After putting soil in their cups, they added a piece of banana and grass seeds. They then covered their cups by placing them in a bag and sealing it. Students will observe the piece of fruit decomposing by the bacteria in the soil. This will help the grass seed grow. The water cannot evaporate, so it condenses back into the cup and provides moisture to the soil.
