Asim McGill, veteran football coach and current Martin County Schools District Athletic Director, is one of two new Region 1 representatives appointed to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors.
“As an Eastern North Carolina native who has been with Martin County School for 20 years, it is an honor to represent Region 1 for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors,” McGill explained. “It is truly an honor to represent my current and former colleagues across the northeast and do what is best for our region and for high school athletics in North Carolina.”
The 20-year high school football coach, 15 of those years spent on the field in Martin County, and administrator added, “ I’ve lived it. I can see through both lenses as a coach and administrator.” He went on to say that having experienced high school athletics from coaching and being an administrator should help me make sound, educated decisions to continue the long-term success of the great education-based athletics model we have in North Carolina.
His four-year term (2026-2030) will begin July 1, 2026.
