MCHS Jr. Chefs Earn Top Five Spot in NC Jr. Chef Competition
For the second year in a row, the Martin County High School Jr. Chef Team has been named a Top Five finalist in the prestigious, statewide NC Jr. Chef Competition — an incredible achievement that showcases talent, teamwork, and serious culinary skill.
We’re proud to introduce this year’s outstanding team, led by MCHS Culinary Arts Instructor April Joyner. Representing Martin County High School are:
Nazir Turner, Grade 12
Landon Pittman, Grade 9
Quahli Cooper-Howard, Grade 11
Sean Alexander-Funk, Grade 11
“This is an incredible accomplishment,” said Joyner. “We are extremely proud of these students for their hard work, dedication, and for the way they represent Martin County High School.”
The NC Jr. Chef Competition challenges teams of 9–12 grade students from across North Carolina to create a school-lunch entrée that is both creative and practical. Recipes must meet National School Lunch Program nutrition standards, include at least two North Carolina-grown products and one USDA Foods item, be easily replicated by School Nutrition Programs, and appeal to student tastes — no small task.
Congratulations to Ms. Joyner and our talented MCHS Jr. Chef Team!
We’ll be cheering them on and following their journey as the Top Five competition continues after Christmas break.
Once again, Gator Nation keeps excellence on the menu.
