Schools Closed for Students Thursday, Feb. 5
This is an update from Martin County Schools for our student families and staff members. Please listen to the message in its entirety.
Although melting and higher temperatures have occurred across the county today, slush and patches of ice remain prevalent, on many secondary roads.
Temperatures will drop below freezing tonight with the forecast of additional wintry mix precipitation and below freezing temperatures until after 11 AM tomorrow, creating unsafe conditions for bus transportation.
Given these conditions, Martin County Schools will be closed for students. tomorrow, Thursday, February 5. We will be closed for students because the district has already exhausted the allowable remote learning days given by the state.
Although school is closed, we encourage students to continue working on the packets they brought home on Friday. Although any work completed tomorrow will not be graded, and no attendance will be taken, we encourage all students to devote some of their time off to staying engaged in preparation for returning to school very soon.
Monday, February 9, is currently listed on the district calendar as a teacher workday. To keep us on track with required instructional days, this will now become a regular student day for all MCS schools. Again Monday, February 9 will now be a regular student day for all MCS.
Thursday, February 5 will be an optional in person workday for MCS staff on a two hour delay. Please contact your supervisor if you have questions. Thank you to our Maintenance Team, who has been working hard to ensure staff can enter our buildings safely.
