Brandon  Howard - Principal

Greetings Riverside Middle School,

Welcome to Riverside Middle School. Every year approximately 425 students from 6th to 7th grade begin a new school year. Our goal is to create a learning community that is committed to engaging and challenging every student in every classroom every day. Our students, staff and families work together to create an environment where children are intellectually challenged in ways appropriate to their individual strengths, needs and experiences.

We believe that parents play a critical role in the success of our students. Parents, you are your child's first and most important teacher. You know your child better than anyone else and we invite you to work in partnership with your child's classroom teacher. You have rich insight into your child's unique needs, talents and interests. Please feel free to share any information that you believe will help us increase your child's success. Teachers, however, have a unique perspective on your child. They will see your child as a member of the class and watch as they interact with peers, face the challenges of new learning, ask questions and solve problems. Parents and teacher perspectives, working in partnership, are critical to ensure that your child's time at Riverside Middle School is exciting and rewarding.

On behalf of everyone at Riverside, welcome to another exciting year of learning at Riverside Middle School. Thank you for your involvement, support and cooperation. Working together, we are confident that your family will have a positive educational experience at Riverside Middle.

Educationally yours,

Brandon Howard

Dear Riverside Families,

I consider it an honor to work at Riverside Middle School. My commitment is to serve our students, families, and community with care, compassion, and dedication.

I call our community the “RMS Family” because I want our school family to be an extension of your family. I want to serve you in times of joy, happiness, and triumph, but also in times of challenge, grief, and struggle. Academic learning and growth are our bottom line, yet as a school, I believe we also understand that educating students means being attentive to the “whole child” and caring about their social and emotional well-being.

Why I am thankful to serve you and your child at RMS?

Our teachers and staff love middle school-age students, and we love to be a part of their learning and growth during these crucial years of development. We love having parents in our school (although not currently permitted) and contributing to our positive school culture, whether that is mostly online or in-building this year. Parents and community are a big part of who we are, and we want you to help us tell our story.

Keep in touch with me...

Please share with me your perspectives and let me know how things are going for you and your child at Riverside Middle. You can email me anytime at swillhite@martin.k12.nc.us or call me at 252-792-1111.

Visit our RMSKnights_MCS page and “Follow” our school account @RMSKnights_MCS if you have your own Twitter account. We update this page regularly with insights into what’s going on schoolwide and in our classrooms.

I believe students succeed when relationships are strong with our community and Riverside Middle School is a community school. We are a place of learning, belonging, growth, and support for students, families, and community. Thank you for being a part of our community and school! Please let me know how I can help make your RMS experience even better!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Wishing you grace and blessings,

Sarah Willhite
