Since 1978, Martin County Schools has proudly participated in an exchange program with students from Salzgitter-Bad, Germany. Every fall for approximately three weeks, eighteen German students accompanied by two chaperones visit Martin County. They participate in many activities, some with and some without their American host students. The German visitors attend classes at the high schools, tour Nags Head, go kayaking on the Cashie River, and learn about Martin County's rich agricultural heritage. During the summer, a group of American students travels to Salzgitter for a three week stay. While there, they tour Berlin, the Harz Mountains and possibly experience Alstadfest!
We appreciate all the businesses, clubs, and community members who donate their time and money to make this long-running program a success.
Many of our students have enjoyed the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn about another country and culture. We are always looking for interested high school students to participate in the program. If you're interested, please let your guidance counselor and/or principal know!!
