Martin County DSS to Host “Town Hall” Meetings about Changes to Medicaid on September 19th & 23rd

WILLIAMSTON, NC — The State of North Carolina is undergoing a transformation on the administration of Medicaid benefits. Some Medicaid beneficiaries will move from a “fee for service” to a “managed care” approach beginning February 2020 across the State.  Under the managed care approach, Medicaid services will be administered through Prepaid Health Plans (PHP) and Provider Led Entities (PLE).

“’Fee for service’ means that all claims are paid based on established rates.  With managed care, monthly payments will be paid to PHPs on a per-beneficiary basis, which is designed to save money,” said Letecia Erby, Director of Martin County DSS.

Mrs. Erby added, “This new initiative will also help increase the health and well-being of residents who are beneficiaries.  It involves a whole person centered and coordinated system of care that addresses both medical and non-medical drivers of care.”

Currently, there are approximately 5,400 Medicaid beneficiaries in Martin County and 2.2 million in NC.

The Martin County Department of Social Services (DSS) is hosting informational Town Hall meetings to bring awareness of the changes taking place in order to make informed decisions regarding provider selections. There will be two sessions:

·         Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the EJ Hayes Alumni Center from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with vendor presentations from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., and

·         Monday, September 23, 2019 at the West Martin Community Center from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with vendor presentations from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
