NC Pre-K

The North Carolina More at Four Pre-kindergarten Program was implemented as a state-funded initiative for at-risk four-year-olds, designed to help them be more successful when they enter elementary school. The purpose of More at Four was to provide a high quality, classroom-based educational program during the year prior to kindergarten. During the first ten years, More at Four provided a full school year pre-k program and served over 163,000 children.

In June 2011 the administration of North Carolina’s More at Program Pre-kindergarten Program was transferred from the Department of Public Instruction – Office of Early Learning to the Department of Health and Human Services – Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE). North Carolina’s Pre-K Program (NC Pre-K) began providing services to children, under the new management structure, in August 2011.
